What does a typical day-to-day look like?

Managing the end-to-end processing of monthly and weekly payrolls for 850+ employees.

Leading and overseeing the Payroll team, ensuring payrolls are processed accurately and on time.

Managing CIS payroll for subcontractors, including verification, deductions and submissions.

Reviewing and approving payroll outputs before final sign-off.

Ensuring accurate processing of new starters, leavers, salary changes, overtime, allowances, bonuses and statutory deductions.

Managing payroll calendars and ensuring all deadlines are consistently met.

Ensuring compliance with UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and CIS regulations.

Managing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP and SAP.

Completing and submitting HMRC returns and maintaining accurate payroll records.

Overseeing payroll systems and liaising with software providers to resolve issues and implement improvements.

Identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce manual work and improve payroll accuracy.

Supporting system upgrades, testing and integration with HR and Finance systems.

Providing employees with clear guidance on payroll-related matters, including pensions, benefits and deductions.

Working closely with HR on onboarding, benefits and changes to employee compensation.

Supporting month-end and year-end processes, including payroll reconciliations and reporting.

Collaborating with Finance on cost analysis, forecasts and audit requirements.

Preparing payroll cost reports and analysis for senior leadership.
Who are we looking for?

Proven experience managing high-volume, multi-frequency payrolls.

Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements and CIS regulations.

Previous experience managing and developing a Payroll team.

Excellent understanding of statutory payments and payroll compliance.
-
CIPP qualification would be highly desirable.

Experience working with integrated HRIS and Finance systems.

Strong payroll software and Microsoft Excel skills.

Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and strict deadlines.

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
