A unique opportunity has arisen for a first class finance professional to assume responsibility for heading up a new Risk & Controls function.

 

Reporting to the Finance Director and Financial Controller, it is a high profile, broad and highly visible position, although it is envisaged that the department may grow over time, and the incumbent will be responsible for shaping this direction.

 

Given the significant stakeholder management and engagement piece that comes with this post, and the fact that it will liaise closely with Sales, Finance, Operations, IT, Human Resources, External Audit and the Senior Executive Team, you will possess first class interpersonal communication and influencing skills. High IQ and EQ are sought, combined with strong analytical skills, and the ability to build highly effective relationships.

 

Responsibilities will include:

  • Creation, management and delivery of a risk-based annual Audit Plan
  • Undertaking internal audit reviews, reviewing business processes and recommending control improvements
  • Providing management and the Audit Committee with reports of results and recommendations
  • Following up to determine if internal control improvements have been implemented
  • Presenting findings and progress with the Audit Plan to the Audit Committee and providing an annual summary of the control environment
  • Supporting good governance by undertaking projects / investigations, including whistleblowing reports or suspected fraudulent activity
  • Maintaining Internal Audit standards and procedures
  • Co-ordinating and embedding the risk management process
  • Acting as Business point of contact for governance and control queries
  • Conducting regular meetings with Business Unit Management / legal / Group business functions to understand the risk environment

 

About you:

You will be ICAS or ACCA Qualified, with post-qualification experience (5 years min) within audit/ internal audit.  A firm awareness of best practice approaches to risk management and internal controls is essential, along with excellent analytical and problem solving skills.  Strong business acumen, pragmatism and well-honed interpersonal skills will allow you to build effective relationships at all levels within the organisation, and exceptional stakeholder management skills are a prerequisite.
