Meet The Recruiter: Christine Knox
3 November 2017
How did you get in to recruitment?
I was looking for a new job at the time and came to register with HR Consultancy. I was offered a position working in the administration support team here, where Hilary then convinced me that I would make a great recruitment consultant and so I moved into that role and worked my way up from there.
What was your dream job as a child?
I can’t remember having a burning desire for one particular job as I was growing up although I did think I might do something in the medical field. I always had a desire to work in a role where I was able to help people, although being very squeamish made a medical career a no go.
How do you commute?
I drive to work and back, parking in town.
What does a typical day look like?
No two days are ever the same, which I really like. I’ll normally start the day by catching up with emails and calls and my team members. I am out and about at meetings most days with clients, finding out what their recruitment requirements are and candidates to help them find their next career move.
What’s the best part of your job?
I really enjoy helping people to find the right role for them and get lots of satisfaction from finding my clients the right candidates for their teams. I also enjoy the management part of my role, helping staff to develop their skills and experience and seeing them progress in their own careers.
What’s been your biggest success so far?
I would have to say being able to progress my career with HR Consultancy whilst working part time hours. I was also previously awarded the Scottish Recruitment Consultant of the Year award which I am proud of.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I spend my free time with my family; I have two young daughters who keep me busy, so life outside of work is hectic, fun, rewarding and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
What is most important to you?
It’s important to me to be able to maintain a good work/life balance. I am lucky that I have the best of both worlds as I work part time. I am able to balance having my career with being a good mum, too. HR Consultancy has a number of female leaders within the business who work part time; we are fortunate to work in a supportive business that promotes flexible working hours.
Describe yourself in three words.
Organised, outgoing and conscientious.
