The Best Excuses For Not Turning Up To Work
20 July 2017
It’s been lovely and sunny this week and, to be honest, we contemplated pulling a sickie to make the most of that big yellow ball in the sky we hardly ever see. So, that got us thinking, what are the best excuses to not turn up to work? Especially on a day when the sun is splitting the sky and it’s so obviously a sickie in order to strike up the barbecue at home.
Well, being recruiters, we’ve heard a fair few excuses in our time – some of them are fairly wild! So, we’ve rounded up the best we could think of to give you a laugh at your desk.
Here are some of the best excuses given by employees or candidates phoning in “sick”.
I had one candidate claim they had turned up at the wrong building, miles away … Even though I had walked past them on my way in to work.
One employee said they couldn’t come in because their dog was making them feel guilty about leaving the house.
I had an employee call me to tell me they were really suffering with the flu – forgetting that they had ‘drunk Tweeted’ the night before saying how much they hated their job.
A candidate had ‘experimented’ with hair dye and was too ashamed to be seen in public.
One candidate lived in a fairly rural area, so their go-to excuse was that there were cows or sheep blocking the roads.
I had an employee swear blind it was Sunday and they weren’t due in for work.
It was an incredible spell of good weather and an employee didn’t turn up because they had no ‘summer work clothes’.
